Following Novak Djokovic‘s father’s remarks about his retirement, another person has come up with a similar thought. This time it is Djokovic’s coach Goran Ivanisevic‘s former mentor – Radmilo Armenulic. He gave his opinion based on Djokovic’s biggest rival Rafael Nadal‘s announcement that 2024 will be his final year on tour. Nadal, who is on an injury break will not play for the rest of the year.

According to Armenulic, “He must be thinking now that he should finish, but I think he will play for another year or two. I hope he will feel for himself when he should end his career. Nadal is sure to finish because he has a problem with his hips, Federer is already retired, so only Novak remains from the three.”

Armenulic also gave some insights about his mentality of Djokovic in the future that can lead to his retirement, “He will judge for himself when he sees that he lacks 10 or 15 centimetres to reach the ball, that he no longer has the necessary shot moment. He will decide for himself and say, ‘I’ve played enough, I don’t want to be chased around the field by kids and lose matches that I would normally win’ and make decisions.” (H/T: Daily Express)

The Serbian World No.2 Novak Djokovic took a flight from the USA last time with tears and the heartbreak of losing the finals of the US Open in 2021. After that heartbreaking loss in which he lost a chance to become the first male player to win a Calendar slam, he was never able to travel back to the USA due to his vaccination status. Novak Djokovic’s wife is Jelena Djokovic, and he often travels with him during Grand Slam events.

This means that he was not able to participate in the other prestigious tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami as well for the past two years. He was able to participate in the US Open this year since the US changed its vaccination policies in July 2023. The Serbian star will be looking to win his fourth title here this year after missing the tournament last season. Novak Djokovic’s parents are Dijana and Srdjan Djokovic and he was raised in a very adverse pro-war environment.

Djokovic’s greatest rivals this year will be the Spanish World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz and Russian World No.3 Daniil Medvedev. Both of the former US Open champions have a history of beating the Serbian in a Grand Slam tournament before. The tennis world is looking forward to seeing the battles at the top of the men’s game.
