Novak Djokovic has been unstoppable in the last couple of rounds at the Australian Open 2023. The nine-time Australian Open champion cruised into the semifinals in Melbourne, after a dominant win over Andrey Rublev on Wednesday. The Serbian has dropped just one set so far in this tournament, and is certainly the top contender to claim the title on Sunday.
Novak Djokovic had earlier defeated home favorite, Alex de Minaur in the fourth round encounter in straight sets. The Australian admitted that it would be impossible to stop the Serb if he continues playing at this level. Novak Djokovic believes that he is sending a strong message to his rivals, after his dominant win over Andrey Rublev.
The former world number one broke the Russian on five occasions, and dropped just seven games in the entirety of the match. “The last two matches I think I’ve been really strong in the important moments. And this is kind of a message that you want to send out there to all your opponents. I know everyone is watching my matches, I’m watching everyone else’s matches. Now it’s down to the last four guys, and I’m looking forward to it,” said Djokovic.
“I always dreamed big, and I dare to dream big” : Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic will face the American, Tommy Paul in the semifinals of the Australian Open on Friday. The Rod Laver Arena is the place where it all started for the Serb. The 35-year-old won his first Grand Slam in Melbourne in 2008, and the rest as they say is just history.
Novak Djokovic thanked his parents for their incredible support all along the way. Djokovic revealed that he always dared to dream big, and wanted to become the best tennis player in the world.
“I always dreamed big, and I dare to dream big, which is kind of the way I’ve been brought up. I’m really thankful for my parents and the people who are really close in my life when I was very young to give me the freedom and space to really express myself on the tennis court and be really creative and to dream, and to have a really wild imagination, so that I could reach the top of one of the most important global sports that we have in the world,” said Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic could level Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 Major titles, if he claims his 10th Australian Open title. The Serbian has been struggling with a hamstring injury for the past couple of weeks, which might be the only thing to stop him from winning again in Melbourne.
