Daniil Medvedev gave World No. 2 Novak Djokovic a tough fight in the final-round match at the Flushing Meadows on Sunday. The Serb still managed to dominate over his opponent, winning the Championship in a thrilling three-setter. Following his win, Djokovic rushed to his wife and family as they shared a beautiful moment together.
Djokovic took his Grand Slam singles count to 24 with his recent win after he ousted Medvedev with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory in the last round. The Russian forced Novak into playing long rallies, which left the 36-year-old tired and drenched in sweat. Novak still did not let Medvedev take a single set and knocked down the latter over three sets.
After scoring the sixth game in the last set, Novak immediately rushed to the stands to hug his daughter. He then climbed up the player’s box where the rest of his family was. The Serb was greeted by his family’s brimming faces as they chanted “Bravo!”. Novak hugged his son, Stefano and then embraced his wife, Jelena. He then went on to hug his parents and other members of the family.
With his historic win on Sunday night, Djokovic won his 4th US Open title in the singles category after playing his 10th final at the tournament. Novak has now become the first person to win three majors in 4 different years. He has won 3 Grand Slams in 2011, 2015, 2021 and now 2023.
