“It is obvious the goalpost always changes when he reaches a milestone” — Novak Djokovic’s fans lash out at Australian Open for its contrasting manner of congratulating Rafael Nadal and the Serb

Tennis fans backing their favorite player is not a new thing. They always keep an eye on everyone and never shy away from criticizing those who deliberately downplay the achievements of that player. This is what exactly the followers of Novak Djokovic have got and are not backing away to show their displeasure.
The one who is under the fire this time is not a person but the whole Australian Open organisation. What has drawn ire from the Serb’s fans is the different methods used by the organizers to congratulate different players.
When Djokovic won this year at Melbourne Park, he tied with Rafael Nadal at 22 Grand Slam titles. There the Australian Open organizers put out a poster on social media which showed the most number of Majors won in the Open Era across men and women. In that poster, Nadal stood in second place behind Serena Williams (23) but strangely ahead of Steffi Graf as well as Djokovic, despite all three of them tied at 22 each.
Now, after Djokovic’s historic triumph at the 2023 French Open, where he became the man with the most number of Slams in the history of the sport, the same organizers again have come out with another poster. However, this time the difference is they have included Margaret Court too in the list, who clinched the most Grand Slam titles (24) but most of them came in the Amateur Era. Moreover, they put Serena ahead of Djokovic. However, in the poster after the 2023 Australian Open, Nadal was placed ahead of Steffi Graf despite the same number of Slams in both cases.
Novak Djokovic’s fans vent out their frustration on downplaying the Serb’s achievements
The difference between the two posters has been quickly spotted by netizens, who have lashed out at Australian Open organizers for showing hypocrisy towards Djokovic. Many have commented that the Serb has always been a victim of these dirty tricks.
Meanwhile, the other section of people are pretty confident that Djokovic will be at the top of the list in a ‘matter of time’. They claim that no politics can stop the 36-year-old to achieve what he is destined for.
Now, it will be interesting to see what the Australian Open organizers do if the Serb manages to defend his title at Wimbledon. Notably, Novak Djokovic will take part in the 2023 Wimbledon and will be one of the hot favorites to lift the trophy.
