Novak Djokovic recently won an impressive 10th Australian Open championship title. The Grand Slam win helped him equal Rafael Nadal‘s record of 22 major titles. The victory in Melbourne also rose Djokovic’s position to the top yet again. The Serb dethroned young Carlos Alcaraz to claim the World No.1 position.

Novak had already surpassed Roger Federer‘s record of 310 weeks at No.1 in the ATP rankings in 2021. With his rise to the pinnacle this year, Djokovic beat Steffi Graf‘s record of 377 weeks. Jelena Djokovic posted a heart-warming video with her husband to commemorate the occasion and congratulate Novak.

Jelena posted a video on her social media platform, dancing with the tennis star and crooning to some music. She also added that Novak had a ‘love affair’ with the sport. The affair, joked Jelena, had been going on for a long time. Moreover, she didn’t mind the relationship. She also commented that everyone knew about this long-standing affair.

The video was to commemorate Djokovic’s epic achievement, of surpassing Graf’s 377 weeks, to claim the highly valuable record. Jelena even mentioned that her husband was the best tennis player for the ‘longest time in the history of tennis’. The 35-year-old’s wife exclaimed that she looked forward to extending the record too.

This instance is the first time in six months that the Serb has topped the rankings. Djokovic reached the position for the first time in 2011 when he was 24. Between 2014-16, Djokovic had his best run at 122 consecutive weeks. The player has also finished the year-end rankings at No.1 for a record total of seven times.

Novak Djokovic to play in the Dubai Open tomorrow

The Serbian, who disclosed on Sunday that he is recovering well from a hamstring injury he sustained in Australia in January, will enter the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships with a perfect 12-0 record for 2023. The Dubai ATP 500 will test his season-long winning streak. Djokovic has won the Dubai title five times previously.

The 35-year-old has a 43-7 match record, with victories in 2009–11, 2013, and 2020. In 2022, Djokovic lost against Jiri Vesely in the quarterfinals, who went on to the final. Djokovic said that players feel ‘comfortable’ in Dubai. He further added that he looks forward to a ‘great atmosphere’ on the court. Djokovic, the top seed, will play Tomas Machac to start his quest for a sixth Dubai victory. Constant Lestienne or Tallon Griekspoor will face off against the winner.
