Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova recently stood up for her principles and opinions on social media. The 18-time grand slam champion has advocated for women’s rights and climate change for a long time. She has also been supportive of LGBTQ+ rights and has been consistently vocal about new developments.
Recently, Navratilova took to Twitter to establish her support for Senator Jeff Merkley who expressed his stance on climate change. A troll on social media wasn’t having it and they criticised Navratilova for retweeting the post immediately. The former tennis star fired back in no time, staying rigid on her opinions.
Clearly, you can’t read either: Martina Navratilova hits back at haters on social media
Jeff Merkley’s post about climate change was retweeted by Navratilova. The post read, “Climate chaos isn’t some far off threat. It’s here, and it’s impacting communities in Oregon and across the West right now with extreme heat and wildfire. I will keep fighting for the bold climate action we need to protect our health, planet, and future.”
Her retweet wasn’t well received by one fan who spoke against Navratilova’s opinions and told her to stick to tennis. Martina Navratilova immediately put the hater in their place.
Recently, Martina Navratilova also opened up about where she stands on the Abortion rights issue. She said, “Cruelty is the point. Also what happens when older white male politicians make medical decisions that doesn’t affect them at all and actually kills women.” Navratilova currently resides with her partner Julia Lemigova. She continues to do commentary for tennis tours as well. But she has been no stranger to controversy either.
She was criticised for body shaming Serena Williams recently. She has said of Williams, “She’s got an amazing body that’s very, very strong, And she worked hard to improve on that body. Obviously, these days the training and recovery is so much more sophisticated than it was in my day. It’s easier for players to have that longevity. But surfaces are still hard and everybody’s hitting the ball hard. ” Fans did not take this analysis well and claimed that Navratilova has been insensitive about body norms before.
