Djokovic hoped that Serena’s retirement would never come and then revealed how proud he was of her achievements. He added that the American has inspired generations and called her a global icon- male or female.
“I was hoping that this moment will never arrive when you announce your retirement and here we are. You can be very very proud of what you’ve achieved and have left behind. You have inspired so many different generations, not only tennis players but athletes around the world. You are one of the global icons of all time – male or female. I’m just honored and proud to have shared the court with you for so many years,” the Serb said.
