French coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently stated in an interview why he feels the 22-time Grand Slam title champion Rafael Nadal has confirmed his participation in the 2024 Australian Open.

In an exclusive interview with UTS, the former coach of Serena Williams narrowed down two reasons for the 14-time French Open winner’s participation in the upcoming Australian Open, amidst talks of a probable farewell season for the Spaniard. 

The fact that Rafael Nadal wants to play the Australian Open can be explained in two ways. The first is that he thinks it might be his last year and he wants to play. But the second is maybe he feels good.

The French tennis coach and sports commentator feel that the 22-time Grand Slam champion has the best chance of winning another slam at his favorite tournament of the season, Roland Garros. The ‘King of Clay‘ has 14 Grand Slam titles in Paris. Speaking further about the Spaniard’s chances at clay, Patrick Mouratoglou mentioned

 He would probably skip it and go straight to clay, probably to South America and prepare for Roland Garros, which will undoubtedly be the most important tournament of his season, because it is the Grand Slam that he has the best chance of winning.
He further added

The former World No. 1 has been missing in action since the entire 2023 season due to injury concerns. However, the Spanish tennis star has time and again confirmed his final comeback to the sport in the year 2024, as he is all set to play his farewell Tour next year. 

Rafael Nadal will most probably play his final season in the year 2024

The Spanish legend Rafael Nadal has expressed his desire to play competitive tennis for maybe one last time in his career before he bids goodbye to the sport for good. The clay court expert has confirmed his participation in the Brisbane Open early in the next year to start his 2024 season campaign.

The 37-year-old has also admitted that he is just grateful for getting an opportunity to compete at the highest level again and has also stated how he does not prioritize winning a Grand Slam, especially the French Open, at this phase of his career. 

He has also shown some excitement about playing in the Paris Olympics next year, representing his nation alongside fellow tennis player and countryman Carlos Alcaraz.
