Rohan Bopanna, an accomplished tennis player from India, has voiced his support for the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) led by Novak Djokovic. The PTPA is a newly-formed organization by tennis players. It aims to represent the interests of professional tennis players and promote better communication. It further encourages cooperation with tournaments and other stakeholders in the sport.

Novak Djokovic and Canada’s Vasek Pospisil established the PTPA in 2019. However, the organization faced a difficult beginning, as it drew censure from the ATP and WTA governing bodies. It was also not received well by prominent tennis players like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Although it faced criticism in the initial years, it is now gaining popularity among the players and tennis fraternity.

Bopanna has called on fellow tennis players to back the PTPA, stressing the need for greater player representation in the decision-making process of the sport. However, he also emphasized that the PTPA can help address issues. Issues like better remuneration for players, which has been a longstanding problem in tennis. He further added and said that the players need a platform where they can collectively raise their concerns and have a say in how the sport is run.

Addressing his fellow tennis players, Rohan said “I am proud to be part of the Professional Tennis Players Association, the PTPA. I really believe it’s a need of the hour. We as current professional tennis players need to have one voice in order to really push for more transparency, more opportunities not only for us as tennis players currently who are playing, but also for the future generations of tennis players.”

Rohan Bopanna advances into the next round of ATP Rotterdam

The duo of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden have reached the quarterfinals of the ATP Rotterdam tournament. After a nail-biting round of 16, the pair held their nerves and went past the next round. Bopanna is continuing his Australian Open form where he reached the finals of the mixed doubles along with Sania Mirza.

Bopanna’s endorsement of the PTPA comes at a time when the organization is seeking to gain wider support from players around the world. His endorsement is likely to carry weight within the tennis community, given his stature as a well-respected player and his advocacy for player rights.
