“Rafael Nadal has done the impossible at Roland Garros”: Padel player Paquito Navarro
Since 1928, Roland-Garros has served as the host venue for the most renowned clay court competition in the world. Presently, the Paris Major Premier Padel competition is being held at the iconic locale.
The International Padel Federation (FIP) is in charge of organizing the competition, which is being held for the first time on Roland-Garros’ Court Philippe Chatrier.
The very first match played here was between the duo formed by Pablo Lima and Franko Stupaczuk who faced the locals Bastien Blanque and Adrien Maigret. They were followed by Paquito Navarro and Martín di Nenno who needed just 48 minutes to eliminate Facundo Domínguez and Diego Ramos 6-0 and 6-1.
‘Rafa is a benchmark’: Navarro on Rafael Nadal’s achievements at Roland Garros
With his triumph in Paris last month, Rafael Nadal extended his already unbelievable record at the French Open to 14 titles. The 36-year-old Mallorcan also extended his grand slam lead over his main rivals, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, as a result. At Wimbledon, Djokovic won his 21st Major, moving him up to 22 while Federer stays at 20.
In a recent press conference, padel player Paquito Navarro reacted to fellow Spaniard, Nadal’s achievements at Roland Garros.
“I see impossible what Rafa Nadal has done. It doesn’t fit in my head that someone has won the Roland Garros title 14 times and the ones that remain because it seems that each time is the last and it’s not.” All the admiration in the world. Rafa is a benchmark, an idol, and now stepping on this track, what he imposes and what makes you tense to play with the entire stands in Paris, gives him even more merit. He has achieved an impossible,” Navarro said.
