21-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal has had a positive start to his 2022 French Open campaign so far. After beating Jordan Thompson in the first round, he got the better of Corentin Moutet in the second round in straight sets 6-3,6-1,6-4. This was a much-needed result for Nadal as he was yet again returning from an injury at the French Open.

After a dream start to the year where he won his 21st major title, Nadal suffered a shocking blow at Indian Wells where he was ruled out for a month due to a hairline rib fracture. After returning to tour in Madrid, Nadal’s chronic foot once again kicked in as he limped his way out of the Rome Masters. For the first time ever expect 2015, Nadal is playing the French Open without winning a Masters title.

With his second-round victory at the French Open, Nadal also registered his 300th grand slam match win. He becomes only the third man in tennis history to record 300 wins at a grand slam stage. Only Roger Federer with 369 wins and Novak Djokovic with 325 wins is ahead of Nadal on the list.

Roger Federer was the first man to win 300 grand slam matches. He achieved the feat at the 2016 Australian Open where he defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. After him, Djokovic reached the milestone last year at the Australian Open when he defeated Milos Raonic in the fourth round. Apart from the Big 3, only Martina Navratilova with 306 wins has more than 300 match wins at the grand slam stage.
