Rafael Nadal is set to miss the Qatar Open, which starts on February 19, 2024. The Spaniard made his comeback earlier this year during the Brisbane International. However, owing to another muscle injury, the tennis great had to withdraw from the Australian Open as well as the Qatar Open now.
In an interview with La Sexta, the former World No. 1 opened up about his disappointment in missing the tournament again and again due to persistent injuries.
I have never hated tennis. It would be very ungrateful of me. Tennis has given me many beautiful things that I would never have been able to experience without it. I couldn't hate it. But I get tired of having a body that doesn't respond to me how I would like.Rafa said
For context, the Spaniard’s career has been cut short due to various injuries in the last few years, due to which he missed the entire last season.
However, Rafa has said that he will try hard to return and play the exhibition match in March. The Spaniard is scheduled to face countryman Carlos Alcaraz in Las Vegas on March 3. After which, he will be making a comeback at the ATP tournaments through the Indian Wells.
Rafael Nadal opens up about his plans for the remaining of the season
Rafael Nadal had earlier announced that this was going to be his last professional tennis season. However, owing to repeated injuries at the beginning of the season, his time at the court has been further cut short.
In the interview with La Sexta, the Spaniard remarked that playing in the French Open and the Olympics this season is going to be his main aim.
[Roland Garros] will be one of my goals. I'd like to play at the Olympics as well. It's not something I can confirm right now, but I hope I will… I think I will. The Spaniard said.
Even his uncle and longtime coach, Toni Nadal, has expressed his high hopes for Rafa at the French Open. With that being said, there is no denying that it would be an incomplete story if the ‘King of Clay‘ doesn’t get one last dance in the Roland Garros.
