Carlos Alcaraz staged his most famous win as he defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open in a three-set thriller. The Spanish youngster fought through an ankle injury to beat his idol for the first time and became the first teenager to ever beat him. He ultimately defeated Nadal  6-2, 1-6, 6-3 to progress to the last four in the Spanish capital.

Alcaraz was ecstatic after his win over Nadal, he hardly could jot down his thoughts as it was a big occasion and was overwhelming for the teenager. He defeated Nadal for the first time and that too in Madrid at the biggest court in Spain in the presence of King Felipe VI, it simply could not have gotten any bigger and better for the 19-year-old.

Speaking after the famous win, Alcaraz shared his dream of winning back to back matches against top players, something that David Nalbandian did in Madrid back in 2007. So is seeking inspiration from the Argentine tennis star as he will face Novak Djokovic next in the semifinals.

“I am ready to play the best player in the world. He is the No.1 player right now and I want to do the same that Nalbandian did some years ago. I just beat Rafa and now I have Djokovic in front of me, I can only say that I will fight till the last ball, do my game and will enjoy the match. Let’s see what happens,” Carlos Alcaraz shared his excitement to play against the top players in the world as people tip him to be the next big thing.

Carlos Alcaraz started off really well against Nadal as he took the first set but then he struggled with an injury on his ankle which hindered his movement. It also played a huge part in the second set as Rafael Nadal came back into the game. But the teenager regained his focus at the break and went at it with full determination to win the decider and wrap the game up.

The young Spaniard is enjoying a sensational season as he has reached his fifth semifinal on tour this year. After winning titles in Rio, Miami and Barcelona, Alcaraz will be aiming to continue his fantastic run in Madrid aswell as he will take on World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.

His maiden win over Nadal must have given him immense confidence and he will hope to take that forward in facing the reigning Roland Garros winner Novak Djokovic in the last four clash in the Spanish capital.
