Nick Kyrgios has been one of the breakthrough performers of the year as he reached the Grand Slam singles final for the first time at Wimbledon. Though he lost the finals against 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, he attained success and managed to cement his name among the elites. Renowned journalist Simon Jordan slammed the Aussie for behaving like a silly brat after losing the Newcombe Medal to Ashleigh Barty.

After his spectacular performance in Wimbledon, he won the Citi Open but had a disappointing fourth-round exit at the US Open. He withdrew from the semi-finals of the 2022 Japan Open due to a recurring knee injury. He had also withdrawn from the Swiss Indoors in order to get adequate rest. Though he and his doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis qualified for the Year-end championship, they failed to go past the round-robin stage.

The co-presenter of a TalkSPORT program bashed Kyrgios for behaving like a sole loser who isn’t ready to accept defeat. He criticized him as a mercurial talent and pointed out that there have been other great players in Australia who should be acknowledged and appreciated. He further accepted that the Wimbledon finalist has a remarkable talent but his behavior overpowers all his accomplishments.

Nick Kyrgios is a remarkable mercurial talent but doesn’t actually win very much. He’s been to a Grand Slam quarter-final and a final, he’s 27, he hasn’t won a Slam, and there have been great Australian players in the past, Pat Cash, Pat Rafter, Lleyton Hewitt, who actually won things. So while he has got this remarkable talent, I think [Australia Tennis and media] disrespect him because he respects himself with the waste of his talent at times. And then you add in the puerility of some of his behavior…,” said Jordan during an interview.

The 7-time singles ATP title winner expressed his frustration on social media after missing out on winning the prestigious Newcombe Medal to his compatriot Ashleigh Barty. To show his dissatisfaction over the decision, he took to his official Instagram handle and lashed out at Tennis Australia for showing “no respect at all” to him. He also shared some stats related to titles, Grand Slams and match wins to compare him with the retired 3-time Grand Slam winner.

His on-court behavior needs no introduction as his sudden outbursts of emotions has been something that has bothered him time and again. But this habit hasn’t changed over the course of time despite being fined a few times. Nick Kyrgios had earlier commented that the French Open “sucked” and that it should be removed from the ATP tour. To prove his point, the former World No 13 hasn’t played a single match at the French Open since 2017.

He is yet to advance to the fourth round at the clay-court major where he has only succeeded to reach the third round in the years 2015 and 2016. However, he makes a huge revelation stating about his comeback to the Grand Slam tournament in 2023. He admitted that the decision is because of his partner Costeen Hatzi’s request who wishes to see Paris. Otherwise, Nick Kyrgios claimed that he would have preferred to stay back home like the other times.
