Serena Williams‘ former coach Rick Macci has remarked that Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are the favorites to win any Grand Slam. Macci thinks that the two players have been through a lot of tough games, and they have sailed through a tough tide. The American via an X (earlier known as Twitter) post has lauded heavy praises on the two players.
Djokovic had a very successful 2023 season, winning three major Grand Slam titles besides reaching the finals of the Wimbledon. Apart from this, Nole also won the ATP Tour Finals beating Jannik Sinner to the trophy.
In the four Grand Slam events the Serbian just lost one match and that was against Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard defeated the veteran Serb to clinch the Wimbledon title. The 20-year-old had a wonderful season himself winning a Grand Slam as well as reaching the semi-finals of the ATP Final Tour.

The head-to-head record between them is evenly poised. The Serb has three victories, while the Spaniard has two to his name. The most recent meetup between the two came during the ATP Tour semi-finals.
The Nole’s splendid form was too much for the young Spaniard to stop as the Serb beat Alcaraz in straight sets to reach the finals of the Tour. As for Alcaraz, his two wins against Nole came in the Madrid Masters and the Wimbledon finals.
Is Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz the only favorites for the next season?
Djokovic and Alcaraz are indeed the major favorites for the next season. However, they are not the only favorites. Apart from the two Jannik Sinner had been performing really well too and one of the fans has also commented the same under Rick Macci’s post.
The young Italian had shown an amazing skillset in the latter half of the tournament reaching the finals of the ATP Tour and also winning the Davis Cup with Italy.
Rafael Nadal is also set to return to the Australian Open. The 37-year-old will make a professional tennis appearance after a period of 350+ days.
Indeed, Rafa is not in his prime anymore, but one could just leave him out of fan favorites at one’s own risk. Djokovic’s old foe and career-long rival will be a major threat to deal with in the next season for both Djokovic and Alcaraz.
