The former World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz is on a quest to claim his position at the top of the leaderboard. He returned to action on tennis courts after recovering from an unfortunate injury. However, he commenced his 2023 season from where he left off his 2022 season. He gave a dominant performance in Buenos Aires to win the Argentina Open 2023 title.
In Rio, he has until now been invincible. He defeated Mateus Alves, Fabio Fognini, Dusan Lajovic, and Nicolas Jarry on his Road to the Final of this ATP 500 event. However, unlike in the Argentina Open, he struggled against Fabio Fognini in his second-round fixture and against Nicolas Jarry in his semi-final round match. In both the matches, he lost the first set and had to fight his way to win both the matches.
Cameron Norrie, too, has been on an ascendancy this season. After giving clinical performances at the United Cup 2023, Australian Open 2023 and the Argentina Open 2023, he has been excellent so far at Rio Open. He is currently ranked as World No.13; however, he is yet to win his first ATP title this year.
The Briton had to fight his way in every match in this tournament. He defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Thiago Monteiro, Hugo Dellien, and Bernabe Zapata Miralles to step into the final.
