Jannik Sinner made a sensational comeback in the 2024 Australian Open final after being two sets down against Daniil Medvedev to win his first-ever Grand Slam title.
He has now become the first-ever Italian men’s player to win a Grand Slam since 1976. Australian tennis legend Rod Laver took to Twitter after the youngster’s maiden Grand Slam win to congratulate him.
Rod Laver said that Italian tennis is in good hands and praised Sinner’s overall game. With that, he also talked about Daniil Medvedev, who has now lost the fifth Grand Slam final of his career. Laver said that it was a heartbreaking loss for the Russian and it’s a shame because he had a great campaign in the 2024 Australian Open.

With this, Jannik Sinner has defeated Daniil Medvedev in three back-to-back finals – the China Open, the Vienna Open, and the 2024 Australian Open.
Medvedev’s luck in finals has not been so great lately, as he also lost in the US Open 2023 final against Novak Djokovic. In the 2022 Australian Open final too, the Russian lost to Rafael Nadal despite winning the first two sets.

Before the 2023 China Open final, Jannik Sinner had never defeated Daniil Medvedev in his career. Skip to a few months later; he has defeated the Russian four times and three of those victories came in finals.
The Italian was full of praises for Daniil Medvedev after winning his first-ever Grand Slam and said that he makes him a better player.

Jannik Sinner will now shift his focus to the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami Open. He has been off to a great start to the season and would want to keep up the momentum throughout 2024.
