Greek international tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has always been a Roger Federer fan. However, he could not help but cede to the greatness of Novak Djokovic after his recent antics in the 2023 US Open and his current form at 36 years of age overall. Tsitsipas said in his recent interview that if we consider only the numbers, Novak Djokovic is the best tennis player ever, without an iota of doubt. “If we go by the numbers, he’s definitely the best. He breaks one record after another,” he said.
The biggest attribute that differentiates Djokovic from the rest of the world is the fact that, despite having achieved it all, his hunger to keep winning never fades away. “That’s his character. He’s never happy, it’s like he’s always trying to prove something to someone. I don’t know what and to whom. It’s like he wants revenge. His eye shines,” he said. (H/T: kathimerini.gr)
To substantiate his point, the 25-year-old came up with the example of the Cincinnati Open. Carlos Alcaraz was the absolute favorite in the final against Novak, having defeated him in the Wimbledon final. However, Novak Djokovic overcame the odds and emerged victorious in what can be considered one of the best matches the tennis world has witnessed in a long time. With this, Tsitsipas concluded that the Serb always finds a way out.
Talking about Stefanos Tsitsipas’ form, he has had a rough patch recently. He reached the Round of 16 of the Wimbledon Open and the Cincinnati Open but got eliminated in the second round of the US Open itself, which was pretty shocking.
Novak Djokovic withdraws from the Shanghai Masters
Novak Djokovic has announced via his social media platforms that he will not be participating in the 2023 Shanghai Masters. The Shanghai Masters will be making a return this year after being paused since 2019’s COVID-19 pandemic. The Serb is the most successful player in the tournament’s history, having won the most titles (4), and will thus be dearly missed.
“Over the years, some of the best support I receive anywhere in the world is in China. Shanghai has always been one of my favorite tournaments in the season. I will be missing my #NoleFam in China. I hope that I can come back to China in the future and play in front of all of you again,” Novak Djokovic wrote on his X (formerly named Twitter) account.
