Roger Federer brutally snubbed of a coveted unofficial title in Rothenberg’s amusing account
Roger Federer has always been pretty famous in the tennis world for his fashion sense.

Popular tennis writer Ben Rothenberg recently opined in the context of the ‘Best Dressed Man in Tennis’ that the title has been consistently carried by Kei Nishikori for a very long time and that Roger Federer did not come close. The writer narrated that back in 2019, he had told this to a Uniqlo rep and the Swiss legend’s agent was not happy with the fact that Rothenberg picked Kei Nishikori over Roger Federer as the best-dressed man in tennis.
The series of tweets transpired when Bastian Fachan (another tennis journalist) tweeted that Kei Nishikori was hands down the best dressed man in tennis over the last ten years on December 29, 2023, as it was Nishikori’s birthday. It was in response to this that Ben Rothenberg also tweeted to double down on the same statement and also shared the story of the Uniqlo rep.
Rothenberg also says that now that Nishikori has been off the tour for a while, the mantle of best-dressed dude in tennis has been carried by Alfie Hewett in Ellesse. Hewette is a British wheelchair tennis player, and he is also pretty well known for his fits and fashion sense. Thus, this is a pretty decent selection.
However, Roger Federer being snubbed for the ‘Best Dressed in Tennis’ mantle has not been that well received by fans. Federer was one of the pioneers in fashion as far as tennis players are concerned and his taste in fashion on and off the court has always been praised. Thus, many fans are confused regarding the metrics that led to Nishikori being given the unofficial mantle.
Roger Federer has given some of the most iconic looks in tennis
Federer is one of tennis’s most elegantly dressed players. While there is not much players can do about fashion on the court, it is off the court that Federer’s real fashionable self showed off the most.
Starting from his suits that made him look like the James Bond of the tennis world to the King Cobra-embroidered tuxedo, Federer had it all.
In fact, he also tried to implement whatever fashion sense he could in his match fits. Back in the 2007 US Open, his head to toe all-black outfit, including back shoes, black socks and a black wristband, will always be one of the most iconic outfits ever. After his switch from Nike to Uniqlo, Federer’s black-tie-inspired Uniqlo clothing was also pretty unique and special.
