Sebastian Korda, the World No. 31 and 29th seed at the 2023 Australian Open is in the fourth round. He defeated two-time runner-up and 7th-seeded Daniil Medvedev on a packed Rod Laver Arena. Korda won the first set after coming out on top after 85 minutes battle against the Russian.

He cruised through in the second set and almost raced away in the third as well. Trailing Korda by two games, Medvedev fought back well to make things level at 5-5. Hold by both men saw another tiebreaker start between the two. Korda had four match points to his name but had to wait a little longer before winning the match 7-6(7), 6-3, 7-6(4).

Korda has been giving light-hearted interviews for quite some time and today was one of those occasions. Son of former Pro players Petr Korda and Regina Rajchrtova, Korda talked about his family who have all scripted history Down Under. After being asked whether his father shows him footage of his 1998 Australian Open title, Sebastian gave a funny answer leaving the spectators in splits.

“Yeah even better, my sister has won the Australian Open in women’s golf. Yes, both of them won, one (Jessica Korda) won the Royal Melbourne and the other one (Nelly Korda) won the Royal Adelaide. I don’t know what I am going to be but my mom’s career high was 24, my dad’s was 2. Nelly, my sister, was number one and my oldest sister Jessica was six. So, I’m definitely the worst athlete in the family so far,” said Sebastian.

The Korda’s have enjoyed success Down Under over the years. Petr stunned everyone when he went on to win the 1998 Australian Open title, the only Major he ever won in singles. He had earlier won the Men’s Doubles in Melbourne Park in 1996 with Stefan Edberg as his partner.

Jessica Korda won the 2012 Australian Open (Golf) in Melbourne. The middle child of the Korda family, Nelly Korda, won the 2019 Australian Open in Adelaide. While Sebastian is yet to make his mark since turning Pro, he also has a trophy to boast of in Australia. He won the 2018 Australian Open Juniors single title, defeating Tseng Chun-hsin in the finals.

To have equal say if not bragging rights, Sebastian will look to make the most of the upcoming week eyeing his first senior Grand Slam title. He will now take on 10th-seeded Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round.
