Coco Gauff had already revealed before that Serena Williams and Venus Williams were two tennis players that she looked up to in her childhood. After winning the 2023 US Open, she went on to say that had it not been for the struggles and greatness of these two players, she would have never won the US Open to begin with.

“They’re the reason why I have this trophy today. They’ve allowed me to believe in this dream. Growing up, there weren’t too many black tennis players dominating the sport. It was just them at the time that I can remember, & obviously more came bc of their legacy. It made the dream more believable,” she said.

Coco Gauff has had a sensational run in the ongoing season. Having won the Citi Open and Cincinnati Open before, this victory in the US Open only makes her season more majestic. Moreover, she faired decently on almost all the other tours as well.
