Serena Williams’ path to glory in her farewell tournament is obstructed as she gets a ‘tough’ draw at the 2022 US Open

23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams will end her illustrious and historic career at the US Open next week. She announced her retirement decision a few weeks ago on social media citing her age and life priorities as her reason to take this decision. She competed at Wimbledon last month where she bowed out of the first round.
She also played in the Canadian Open where she won her opening match but lost to Belinda Bencic in the second round. The following week, she competed in the Cincinnati Open where she was thrashed in the first round by US Open champion Emma Raducanu.
In the US Open, she has been handed a decent draw but will find it very difficult to encounter the opening rounds. She will face Danka Kovinic in the first round and should find it easy to get past her. She is then expected to face second seed Anett Kontaveit in the second round and given Kontaveit’s lack of form, Serena will fancy her chances.
In the third round, she is drawn to face 27th seed, Martina Trevisan. Things will get tricky if she reached the fourth round. She will face either US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez or 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Serena Williams’ road to claiming a historic 24th major title
It is very unlikely that Serena will reach the second week but if she does get past the Round of 16, she will then go up against Tunisian Ons Jabeur. Going ahead, she will then face either old-rival Simona Halep or third seed Maria Sakkari in the semifinal. And if on a dream run, she will have to face World No.1 and French Open champion Iga Swiatek in the final of the 2022 US Open.
