Golf legend Tiger Woods was the star attraction at the Arthur Ashe Stadium for Serena Williams‘ second-round match at the US Open on Wednesday night. Serena is currently playing the last professional tournament of her career and announced that she would be retiring from tennis after the US Open. After beating Danka Kovinic in the first round, Serena stunned second seed Anett Kontaveit in the second round. Serena won the match in three sets 7-6(4),2-6,6-2 and registered a 108th match win at Flushing Meadows.
Many eminent personalities like Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Actress Zendaya, and models Gigi and Bella Hadid, along with Tiger Woods, graced the Arthur Ashe Stadium to watch Serena Williams play. Woods was in Serena’s box alongside his girlfriend Erica Herman and Serena’s sister Venus Williams.
Woods was also seen in a very animated mode during the match. He rooted for Serena with all his heart and at times, even celebrated with his iconic ‘fist pumps‘. Fans on social media were very thrilled to see Woods all fired up once again. He even congratulated Serena for her immaculate win and called it a ‘privilege’ to watch her play.

But many people on social media mocked Woods for his ever-long stand on the LIV Golf. Founded in 2021, LIV Golf is the breakaway golf tour backed by Saudi Arabia which is attempting to authorize itself against the already established PGA Tour. With each passing day, LIV Golf is growing in stature and is bringing in some big names to join their already strong playing field.
Woods was always against LIV Golf and as their CEO Greg Norman claims, even rejected a whopping ‘high nine digits’ contract. It is pretty clear that Woods is putting his ideology and passion ahead of an agenda that is trying to commercialize golf like never before.
The legendary golfer was mocked on social media once again. People created a fake scenario where there’s a LIV Tennis tour and Serena Williams, whom Woods was supporting, will soon be joining in for the money.
