Alycia Parks and Sloane Stephens will play as doubles partners
The American tennis players are making all the right noises this year. The top American seeds are a force to reckon with in the tournament while young players are also making headlines with their performances. Sloane Stephens is one of the few rising American stars.
However, this year in particular has been quite difficult for the 29-year old. She could not make it beyond the first round of any of the three tournaments she participated in this year- ASB Classic, Hobart International and the Australian Open.
However, she is willing to make it big this year. In a recent interaction on social media with fans, she talked about her commitment to play at doubles events in tournaments this season, with compatriot Alycia Parks.
“Yes!! I’m going to play with @alycia.parks at some tournaments this year! She is bringing me out of doubles retirement. I’m excited to play with my girl,” she replied to a question of a fan who wanted to know if she is planning to play as doubles this year.
Sloane Stephens participate in an event for children
The former World No.3 came back home to participate in an exhibition event before the Dallas Open 2023. She also participated in an activity for children who are suffering from Down Syndrome and special needs. Here she also met a young fan who also goes by the name ‘Sloane Stephens’.
“I love kids, and I think sharing something incredibly special like our name, there’s very few Sloanes in the world, and very few Sloane Stephens. I don’t know if there’s more of us, but to be able to meet another is very cool and to be able to share that experience is pretty awesome,” the 2017 US Open winner shared her excitement on social media.
Sloane Stephens also played an exhibition match with her friend and compatriot Madison Keys to open the Dallas Open 2023. Dallas Open is an ATP 250 competition.
After a series of disappointing results this season, she dropped into World No.39 in the current WTA rankings. The next few tournaments will be crucial for her. Also, her partnership with Alycia Parks in the doubles events in the tournaments will also be closely monitored by the media and tennis fans.
She would like to win a WTA tournament in front of her supporters and on home soil. She will get plenty of chances as the rung of tennis tournaments in the USA will start soon.
