“Novak will be ahead of the other two,” Stan Wawrinka opines on the GOAT debate amongst The Big Three
Stan Wawrinka choose Novak Djokovic over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as the 'GOAT'.
Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic
Stan Wawrinka has given his take on the GOAT debate. Of the three players in contention- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, he put the Serb ahead of the other two in terms of pure results and victories he had over the course of his career.
In a recent interview, the three-time Grand Slam champion elaborated upon how The Big Three changed the face of modern tennis forever and who among them had a greater impact on the sport. He also gave reasons for his thoughts and opinions.
“They are different personalities and players. If we just talk about the game, for me Roger Federer is really talent, ease and touch. Rafael Nadal is strength, power and Novak Djokovic is a bit of perfection. Novak is the best current player and he has proven it in everything he has done for 20 years. They broke all the records between him, Rafa and Roger. They took everything and ate everything. These are the greatest players in the history of tennis,” he said.
“Let’s go on the GOAT, I have no problem saying things and saying what I think. It all depends on what one is looking for in this list, simply. Already I think it’s difficult to talk about athletes who are still playing. It’s always better to make a list when the players have stopped and finished their career. Sure that if we talk about pure results and pure victories, Novak will be ahead of the other two. I have been convinced of this for years and in my opinion this is what will happen. They have this chance and this bad luck to have been in the same generation and at the same time and they marked the history of tennis in a different way the three,” he continued.
Stan Wawrinka was last seen in action at the Open 13 Provence tournament in Marseilles, France. He reached the quarter-finals round of this tournament but lost to young Frenchman Arthur Fils.

Stan Wawrinka vs The Big Three
The Swiss emerged on the biggest stage of the sport at a time when The Big Three had already begun to dominate male tennis. Stan Wawrinka had to face the challenge of all three great players in his career in various ATP and Grand Slam tournaments throughout his career. However, in spite of these great challenges, he managed to win three Grand Slam titles.
In the battle of Swiss gentlemen, Roger Federer leads 23-3 against Stan Wawrinka. Also, the 37-year-old has not been able to beat the 20-time Grand Slam champion on either the hard or grass courts. His only victories came on clay courts, twice in the Monte-Carlo Masters and once in the French Open.
He shares a similar record with Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard leads 19-3 against the Swiss. Stan Wawrinka has played against Novak Djokovic a maximum number of times. Also, his record, though dismal against the Serb, is better than against the other two greats. Novak Djokovic leads 20-6 against Stan Wawrinka. He also has the distinction of beating Novak Djokovic in the final of the French Open 2015.
