World No.1, Novak Djokovic has been severely criticized for playing the victim card and requesting special entry into the USA. The Serbian was banned to enter Australia, the U.S.A, and a few other countries due to his vaccination status. He recently requested a special entry into America to play the Indian Wells and Miami Open.

However, many fans and famous journalists slammed Novak and his team for playing the victim card. They felt that Djokovic’s decision not to play in certain tournaments was ultimately his choice, and he has the right to make that decision based on his circumstances and priorities. But when he makes these choices, it is understood that he faces the consequences too.

A famous journalist took to Twitter to express his opinion on this request and slammed Novak. He replied to a fan who said “Main takeaway from the last year and a half is that it’s Novak’s choice to not be eligible to play. People should stop acting like he isn’t in control of the situation.” Jon Wertheim, who trolled Novak on this replied and said that people should respect his decision but Novak should stop playing the victim card.

Few fans supported Jon and replied by saying how Novak “whines and complains about how difficult it’s all been.” Novak repeatedly said to BBC many times in the past about his stand on vaccination. Fans should understand that the Serbian can’t complain about missing out on tournaments as it was all his choice in the first place.

Despite this criticism, the Serbian also received a lot of support from his fans. Many fans backed his plead to the U.S government and said it’s his right to request permission to play. People started comparing his participation in many countries from which he was banned last year but allowed this year.

A few fans also questioned asking when did Novak play the victim card and backed him by saying “Pls,can u share sm kind of evidence of him stayin on a victimization lane? I hvnt come across any of that. I cldnt find even a single proof of a Djokovic “ad personam” law-making process.”

During the Australian Open, Indian Wells tournament director Tommy Haas told reporters that he hoped for Novak Djokovic to play. Following his Australian Open victory, Djokovic took a ten-day rest before coming to Belgrade to start practicing again. It remains to be seen whether the world No 1 will play in Dubai starting 27th February, considering that he struggled with a hamstring injury throughout his Australian Open campaign.

Overall, there are mixed reactions to the Serbian’s plead on Twitter. However, fans would be eager to know if their favorite star will be playing or not. Novak is confident nevertheless that he will return to the U.S., just like he returned to Australia. It will also be important for him to play in these tournaments in order to retain his top ranking.
