Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner took on each other in their first match of the 2023 ATP Finals and the Italian ended up winning the battle pretty convincingly. After the match, the Greek international stated that Sinner had made some very evident improvements in his game, especially in his serve, which caused him a lot of trouble in the match.

He also went on to say that some of those serves were unplayable.

He definitely has improved his serve, and he showed it today on the court. There wasn’t much I could do, I was trying to guess sometimes.

The Greek ace further said:

But his serves were landing close to the lines, to the corners and you know, I’m not the elastic girl from superheroes to be behind these balls. I tried my best and he played a very good quality match from his side

Sinner has been simply phenomenal in the last few tournaments and it is evident that he has continued his streak in the ATP Finals. He recently won the China Masters and Vienna Open and now looks to perform well in the ATP Finals as well. He has already received a great start to his campaign by beating Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets.

Sinner is in the same group as Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic, and Holger Rune, i.e., he has been placed in the Green group. This means that he will at least have to beat either Nole or Rune (ideally both) to almost confirm his place in the semifinals now that the top two players from both groups at the end of the group stages qualify for the semifinals.

Jannik Sinner is eager to test himself in front of Novak Djokovic

Sinner has been at the top of his game in the last few months and he has received a perfect end to his 2023 season. However, the Italian wants to test where he is with his game, and the best way to do that, according to him, is to play against Novak Djokovic. As it turns out, Sinner and Djokovic will meet each other very soon in the ATP Finals 2023.

Djokovic will tell me where I am. I felt closer this year in the semifinals at Wimbledon, despite losing in three sets, than last year in the quarter-finals, when we fought for five. I can't wait. These are the games I train for every day, the ones that put me under pressure,

Praising the Serb, Sinner said that he is hands down the best this sport has ever produced and moreover, he has 24 Grand Slam titles. Thus, facing him is the hardest challenge that any tennis player can take up.
