Seeded 2nd Matteo Berrettini was out with hand surgery and had to skip the entire clay season and then returned for the grass season and got off to a solid start. He won the very first tournament he played in after his comeback and won the Stuttgart Open. He got his hands on the second title at the Queen’s Club Championships. Despite being the runners-up at Wimbledon last year he had to withdraw from the tournament this year after testing positive for COVID-19.

On the other hand, Richard Gasquet was up against Roberto Carballes Baena in the first round and beat him comfortably with a 7-5, 6-4 win and secured a place in the round of 16. Being a former Swiss Open champion, Gasquet will be hoping to carry his experience and form that took him to the title here all the way back in 2006.
