Serena Williams, the former world number one is hailed as one of the greatest players of all time and has been the flag bearer of women’s tennis. She has inspired millions of people around the world in her long and illustrious career which lasted nearly three decades.

She bid adieu to the professional sport at the 2022 US Open after she lost her third-round match against Ajla Tomljanovic. She had made her return to the grasscourt season in June after a hiatus of one year but her stint at the tournaments was short-lived following early eliminations. She received an emotional goodbye during the final match as she had won her first major title at the Arthur Ashe stadium in 1999.

Serena Williams has many accolades and accomplishments in her career, especially with her 23 singles Grand Slam singles titles added to her trophy cabinet which is the most by any player in the Open era and is just one behind Margaret Court‘s overall 24 titles.

Victoria Azarenka, the two-time Grand Slam winner from Belarus, was criticized by a fan on social media for ignoring Serena Williams’ accomplishments and accolades after she retired from the sport. She was even criticized for failing to acknowledge her retirement as they both have a strong rivalry during the prime time of their careers.

Azarenka was quick to give a befitting reply where she stated that acknowledging a person does not have to always be shown on social media or through tweets. She appreciates talking to the person and stated that there is no need for her to justify her actions always.

Serena had started off on a good note at the final Grand Slam event of her career even after not having a good build-up to the US Open due to early-round exits. She had defeated the top seed Anett Kontaveit to cruise her way into the third round in the hope of trying a final shot at the title win but the Aussie outplayed her in the third round and put the final brakes with an undying desire for a Grand Slam goodbye.
