Tennis fraternity pays condolences to Brazilian football icon Pele after his demise at 82

One of the most loved athletes of all time Edson Arantes do Nascimento also cherished by his fans by the nickname Pele took his last breath on December 29th. His demise at the age of 82 after battling cancer attracted tributes and condolences from all over the world. The tennis fraternity led by Rafael Nadal mourned the loss of the Brazilian legend.
Pele was the only footballer to have won the World Cup thrice and averaged almost a goal per game throughout his career. In 1999, he was named Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee and appeared in the Time’s list of the 100 most important people of the 20th century.
Spanish star Rafael Nadal was among the first to pay respect to the ‘Black Pearl’. Today a great of world sport is going again. A sad day for the world of football, and for the world of sports.His legacy will always be with us. I didn’t see him play, I wasn’t that lucky, but they always taught me and told me that he was the King of football. Rest in peace! oh king.” he wrote on his Instagram.
Czech–American, former professional tennis player Martina Navratilova later paid her regards to Pele calling the legend a champ.
Billie Jean King also posted a message on Twitter calling him a ‘true ambassador of the beautiful game’ and praised his athleticism & skill.
Former Spanish player Gabriela Sabatini too joined in honoring the Brazilian legend.

Team Brazil pays tribute to Pele at the United Cup in Australia

The Brazilian team led by Beatriz Haddad Maia paid special tribute to their country’s greatest-ever football player at the ongoing United Cup in Australia. Team Brazil walked out onto Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane as their national anthem played in the background.

Other than his insurmountable records and gravity-defying skills, Pele will also be remembered for consolidating Brazil’s place in the football world. He led his team to World Cup glory thrice in 1958, 1962, and 1970. With his passing away world has lost one of its favorite stars.
