Novak Djokovic, the 35-year old Serbian recently won the 21st Grand Slam of his career after he beat Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon, despite being surrounded by controversies most of the time due to his unvaccinated status which has caused him to miss many tournaments, Djokovic makes the most out of the events he does play at.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, only Rafael Nadal has more Grand Slam titles than the Serbian (22). Djokovic overtook Roger Federer’s tally of 20 titles after winning Wimbledon a few weeks ago. His status of playing at this year’s US Open is almost impossible due to him being unvaccinated.

Goran Ivanisevic still hopes that Novak Djokovic might play at the US Open
Novak Djokovic has been surrounded by controversies ever since his deportation from Australia which stopped him from participating in the Australian Open, his vaccination status has caused him to miss many tournaments but that does not matter to the Serbian as he is not willing to change his principles and his vaccination status over getting to play at events.
As things stand, Novak Djokovic will not be allowed to participate at the US Open as the organizers made it clear that they will be respecting the US government’s immigration rules and any unvaccinated foreigner will not be allowed to enter the country and that will be the case for Djokovic.
Goran Ivanisevic, Djokovic’s coach shared his opinion on the matter, he said, “There is always hope, Novak will do everything to be there, maybe with a special visa. However, there are only two weeks left. And, personally, I have no hope of Biden changing the rules before the tournament starts. To me, this all makes no sense: if you are vaccinated but test positive, you can enter the United States. If you are unvaccinated but negative, you are banned. There is too much politics in sport.”
Ivanisevic has always supported the Serbian and has respected his vaccination stance, with just a few weeks left to the US Open, it seems unlikely that Djokovic will participate in the event but his coach believes that he will not give up hope until the last second.
