Things get worst for Kamil Majchrzak, fails doping test yet again despite already being suspended by the ITIA
Kamil Majchrzak
Polish professional tennis player Kamil Majchrzak has failed a drug test yet again after being provisionally suspended by the ITIA earlier this month. In quite shocking news, Polish media reported that the 26-year-old Majchrzak has reportedly failed another drug test that was conducted in his native Poland.
Consumption of banned substances is a serious offense in the sporting world with severe consequences for the players. The use of substances to enhance performance is considered unethical and therefore prohibited, by most international sports organizations, including the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). Despite the strict guidelines and enforcement of the standards by the global bodies, this still remains a major issue in the sporting world.
Reacting to the suspension earlier, the 77th ranked Majchrzak said that he was shocked by the findings and claimed to be innocent of any wrongdoings. “I have started the most difficult fight of my life,” Kamil Majchrzak said after his drug test returned negative and was banned provisionally by the ITIA. The latest news of failing the test again could prove detrimental to his career.
The Polish local media reported that the substance detected this time is different from the ones detected earlier, thus bringing the total of prohibited substances to four. If the latest report turns out to be true, the situation would become more and more complicated for the 26-year-old Pole with his career at stake.
Recent controversies other than Kamil Majchrzak, involving substance abuse in Tennis
Consumption of banned drugs is one of the major issues faced by sports all globally. In recent time tennis world too has been rocked with many reports concerning the consumption of banned drugs. Many players have been found in violation of the codes of ITIA and WADA which resulted in their suspension.
Earlier this year, Spanish player Fernando Verdasco himself admitted to violating the drug policy and was handed a suspension for two months. After finding out that it was not a deliberate violation, the ITIA and WADA reduced his sentence from the original 2 years.
The controversies have not spared some of the star players on the tour too. Romanian professional and former world No 1, Simona Halep was ‘provisionally suspended’ after failing to pass the drug test at the US Open.
Earlier in 2016, five-time singles Grand Slam winner, Russia star Maria Sharapova failed a drug test at the Australian Open that year, testing positive for meldonium, a substance that had been banned by the WADA.
