22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal’s poor form continues as he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime in his second group stage match and crashed out of the ATP Finals. Nadal looked helpless and lost the match in straight sets 3-6,4-6. He is yet to win a set this week and has now lost 4 consecutive matches since the US Open.

This is only the second time in his illustrious career that Nadal has lost 4 consecutive matches. He recovered from injury a couple of weeks ago and then bowed out of the opening match at Paris Masters too. Against Felix, he looked very slow on the court and was forced to play defensive tennis because of that.

He has struggled on indoor hard courts throughout his life due to the pace but this year, he looked even slow, both movement-wise and from the baseline. To his dismay, he whenever he made it to the ball, he struggled to finish the points. After the match, Nadal confidently said that he hasn’t forgotten to play tennis. He vowed to do every possible thing to come back and said that he will die trying to get back at his highest level.

I don’t think I forgot to play tennis, how to be strong enough mentally. I just need to recover all these positive feelings and all this confidence and all this strong mentality that I need to be at the level that I want to be. And I don’t know If I (am) going to reach that level again. But what I don’t have any doubt (is) that I (am) going to die for it,” Nadal said.

Last year, Novak Djokovic talked about finishing his career with all the records to which Nadal said that Djokovic is ‘obsessed’ with records. While it wasn’t intentional, Nadal undermined Djokovic’s hunger for more at that time. Nadal is now talking with the exact same obsession and tennis fans on social media can’t stop pointing out the hypocrisy in his statement.
