20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic‘s struggles to get into tournaments will continue once again upon the conclusion of the Grass season. The Tour shifts its focus to the hardcourts once again with the commencement of the US Open leg tour where 5 tournaments are scheduled during the month of August in order to prepare the players for the 2022 US Open.

Djokovic, however, will not be able to participate in all the events including the US Open as the latest policy of the USA does not allow any foreigner to enter the borders who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19, a rule that was also seen in Australia at the start of the year. With the rule in place, Novak will miss yet another Grand Slam and given he was the runner-up last year, he will lose 1200 ranking points as well as a result of his absence.

With many people speaking against the decision of the USA who have allowed Russian and Belarusian players but not unvaccinated foreigners, there is quite a raging debate going on right now as the USA has always been against Russia. With the 2022 Wimbledon set to go ahead with the ban in place for Russians and Belarusians and no ranking points to offer, the US Open has made no such decision and has welcomed everyone except Djokovic.

“What a laughable display, if it were not so sad! Djokovic @DjokerNole will soon not be allowed to participate in the US Open because he did not take his corona shots well. Grandpa Biden’s American Rules. United States of China,” said controversial Dutch politician Thierry Baudet who tweeted his opinion.

The decision of Novak to remain unvaccinated is set to haunt him once again as he is expected to fall outside the Top-5 and be ranked as the World No. 7 after the conclusion of this year’s US Open. This would be his second Grand Slam absence of the season. As a result of the policy, Novak could play in only the ATP-250 event in Los Cabos and the 2022 Canadian Masters and end his Tour appearance by mid-August as the remaining three events are scheduled in the second half of the month where Novak won’t be allowed to play unless he is vaccinated.

While there remains a slim chance of Novak being allowed if the government relaxes the policy but the timeline will be too short as the reports have suggested that the next review will be within three months and with the US Open set to start on the 29th of August, Novak could well be out.
