Venus Williams has slammed American Airlines for losing her baggage prior to the 2023 Canadian Open. The American tennis player lost her luggage after she landed in Montreal just three days before the tournament commenced.

Venus Williams stated in a now-expired Instagram story that she has been following up with the airlines, but to no avail. The 43-year-old tennis player jokingly stated that she had been calling the airlines on numerous occasions in the past couple of days. She revealed that her luggage was sent to the Bahamas, and she awaits for it to be returned.

“I think I spent all my unlimited minutes calling you all which has become my full-time job day and night. This has been so much fun. Me when I only had my Janet Jackson shirt to wear bc the airline sent my bag to the Caribbean.” She added: “Walking the dog and laying in the grass and dreaming about when me and my bag would be together again,” she wrote on her Instagram story.

Venus Williams certainly did not have a great time in Canada, as she also faced a first-round exit in Montreal. The veteran could barely put up a fight against the 13th seed Madison Keys, as she was defeated in straight sets.

Venus Williams will now compete at the 2023 Cincinnati Open, as she faced Veronika Kudermetova in the first round. The veteran returned to the circuit after a five-month injury layoff in June. The American was defeated in the opening round of Wimbledon as well, a tournament where she has achieved plenty of success in the past.

Venus Williams is certainly in the last stages of her career, and it would not be surprising to see her call it a day towards the end of the season. Nevertheless, she will be looking to put up a decent show at her home Grand Slam at the US Open. She received a wildcard to compete at the Flushing Meadows last year, where she was defeated by the Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck in straight sets.
