Daniil Medvedev had a tremendous start to the season where he reached the final of the Australian Open. He then reached the semifinal of the Mexican Open where he once again lost to Rafael Nadal in the semifinal. He then saw a dip in form for the next few months but still managed to reach the fourth round of the French Open. He made back-to-back finals in S-Hertogenbosch and Halle before winning the Los Cabos Open after Wimbledon.

This week in Vienna, he hasn’t dropped a set despite a tough draw and has beaten the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili and Dominic Thiem in the first two rounds.

Jannik Sinner had a good run in Melbourne to start the season and did perform well in the next few months constantly reaching the pre-quarters and the quarters of Masters tournaments. He reached the fourth round of the French Open and pushed Novak Djokovic to five sets at Wimbledon. He then won the Croatia Open before yet another quarterfinal outing at the US Open.

In Vienna this week, he defeated Cristian Garin in the first round before ousting Francisco Cerundolo in the second round in straight sets 7-5,6-3.

Medvedev will have an edge entering the match but Sinner is in hot form too. The Russian has tackled some tricky opponents this week with ease and will fancy his chances to go all the way. As for Sinner, he has done pretty well on fast courts and will back his baseline strength to pummel Medvedev’s defense. Expect an exciting match with Medvedev making it to the last 4.
