The Washington 2022, also called the Citi Open, will be one of the two events being held simultaneously in the first week of August to kickstart the US Open Leg series for the upcoming 2022 US Open. The tournament will be the only ATP-500 event for the month in the build-up to the final Grand Slam of the season. This year’s event will be the 53rd edition of the tournament.

David Goffin and Jack Sock lock horns in a tempting clash while 13th seed Maxime Cressy receives a bye and awaits the winner from the clash between Goffin and Sock. 9th seed Holger Rune also has a bye and will most likely take on Peter Gojowczyk who starts against out-of-form Benoit Paire.
6th seed Denis Shapovalov has a first-round bye and is likely to take on wildcard entrant J.J. Wolff who awaits a qualifier. 3rd seed Taylor Fritz has a round 1 bye and can expect Alexie Popyrin in round 2 as the Australian will start against a qualifier. 16th seed Dan Evans can take on compatriot Kyle Edmund who comes with a protected ranking and awaits a qualifier. 7th seed Karen Khachanov and 11th seed Alex de Minaur also have bye in round 1 while Jenson Brooksby takes on Yoshihito Nishioka.

8th seed Botic van de Zandschulp is likely to take on James Duckworth who waits for a qualifier while 10th seed Frances Tiafoe will wait for the winner from the clash between Benjamin Bonzi and Christopher Eubanks. 14th seed Tommy Paul with a first round bye can expect former champion Nick Kyrgios in the second round as the Australian starts against Marcos Giron. 4th seed Reilly Opelka with a first round bye can expect a meeting with compatriot Denis Kudla in round 2 as Kudla will take on a qualifier.
5th seed Grigor Dimitrov has a bye in round 1 and will await the winner of Bradley Kahn’s clash with Adrian Mannarino in the second round. 2nd Semifinal Prediction: Hubert Hurkacz vs Reilly Opelka
Semifinals
Rublev and Fritz could clash for the 6th time potentially next week in the semis. With all the meetings on hardcourts, Fritz leads 3-2 and given his exploits on the surface earlier this season, the American will be the favourite to advance ahead. Opelka and Hurkacz have met just once, in the qualifiers of Wimbledon and are yet to compete in main-draw matches. With both good players on the surface and having big serves, one can expect it to be a fiery clash that could go to Hubert’s way given his better results on the surface this season.

Final
With one win apiece against each other, Fritz and Hurkacz will have a lot to play for in the finals. With both of them winning the Masters titles on hardcourts, they will look to add another trophy to their cabinet and prepare the best for the US Open looking for their first major title. With a nearly identical record on hardcourt this season, there is very little to separate the two players but it looks Taylor will be the one having the last laugh given his slightly better form.
