Novak Djokovic is all excited and ready to play at the Laver Cup in Team Europe in O2 Arena in London. This will be his first match after his triumph at Wimbledon and failing to comply with the US guidelines and mandates to be able to participate at the 2022 US Open.

Djokovic landed in London right ahead of the Laver Cup which starts on the 23rd of September. He is excited to meet with his arch-rivals Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray as his teammates since it is one of the rarest times that the four of them are on the same side of the net. He also got emotional as this will be Federer’s final outing on the Tour.

Federer announced his retirement on the 15th of September on his social media accounts where he wrote down an emotional and heart-warming letter about his imminent retirement. He even described the reason for taking one of the most challenging decisions of his life due to his health conditions and injuries, which he has been missing in action since his last match at Wimbledon in 2021. He also expressed his desire to play tennis but not as a Pro.

Novak Djokovic will play at the Laver Cup for the second time

Novak Djokovic played at the Laver Cup for the very first time in 2018 where he played with Federer in their doubles match but lost to Kevin Anderson and Jack Sock of Team World. Djokovic had also lost his singles match against Anderson but Team Europe went on to win the Laver Cup title.

Djokovic had a rough start to 2022 due to his ‘unvaccinated‘ status which has been one of the most debatable topics of discussion since the beginning of the year. He couldn’t participate in the Australian Open and hence failed to defend his title. He also could not defend his title at the French Open. Due to his long absence from two major events of the year, there was a substantial drop in his rankings and fell out of the Top-5 of the rankings.
