Daniil Medvedev recently included the likes of the Big Three – Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Nick Kyrgios in his description of a perfect player. The Russian finished as the runner-up at the 2023 US Open, where he was defeated in straight sets by Novak Djokovic.

Starting off his perfect player, Daniil Medvedev chose Roger Federer for his forehands. He mentioned the fact that the way the Swiss maestro used to set himself up for the forehands after a slice is what impressed him the most. He picked Dominic Thiem for his blistering single-handed backhands. He picked Nick Kyrgios for his serve, and said: “Probably for his height, he is the best server ever. Regarding the height, power and precision that he has, he is probably the best.”

Daniil Medvedev picked Novak Djokovic for his return game. There is absolutely no surprise here, as the Serbian can be described as one of the greatest returners of all time. He went on to pick Steve Johnson and Roger Federer for their slices. Later, he chose Nick Kyrgios and Roger Federer again for their net play. “I have played against both Nick and Roger, and when they go to the net, it’s just tough to do anything against them,” he said.

Daniil Medvedev picks Rafael Nadal for his mental strength

Daniil Medvedev picked himself for speed, despite believing that Carlos Alcaraz is the fastest athlete out on the current circuit. He said, “Carlos is pure speed, but I like the way I run, so I will go with myself.” He did not hesitate even for a moment to nominate Novak Djokovic for his flexibility on the court.

Daniil Medvedev picked Rafael Nadal for his mental toughness. The Russian mentioned that he would probably go with the Spaniard for his forehand, but since he was a lefty, he decided to let the option pass. He mentioned that each of the Big Three players have high levels of mental toughness, but he will still go with Rafael Nadal.

Daniil Medvedev just fell short of his second US Open title in three years, as he was humbled by Novak Djokovic in the finals. The Russian was handed a straight sets defeat, as the score-line was the complete opposite of what it was two years ago at the same venue. The third seed had a successful campaign, defeating the top seed, and the pre-tournament favorite Carlos Alcaraz in four sets in the semifinals.
