Elina Svitolina got back from her maternity break this clay season, and it has been a dream comeback. Svitolina played her last tournament of 2022 at the Miami Open, post which she took a break during and post pregnancy. She and French tennis player Gael Monfils welcomed a baby girl on 15th October 2022.

Elina Svitolina won her first-round match against 26th seed Martina Trevisan in easy straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Svitolina is currently riding high from her title win at the Internationaux de Strasbourg, a WTA 250 event.

After her first-round win at Roland Garros, Svitolina talked about her daughter in the on-court video. She talked about how her daughter comes from Ukrainian and French lineage and from tennis families. Additionally, she hinted that her daughter could, in a few years, come out and play at Roland Garros herself.

Our baby is half French & Half Ukrainian, so now we are like French-Ukrainian family. Maybe one day, you’re gonna see her here [Roland Garros] playing some tennis. It’s gonna be fun for her. It is really special to come back and play again at such a high level such as Roland Garros
Svitolina said

Svitolina will take on Australian Storm Sanders in the second round of Roland Garros. Storm Sander is a qualifier at Roland Garros, who reached the main draw by defeating Swiss Viktorija Golubic. Though Svitolina’s current ranking is 192, she has had her ranking protected, as the Ukrainian returned following the birth of her first child. Her protected ranking got her an automatic entry to the French Open 2023.

Her husband Gael Monfils is also going to begin his Roland Garros campaign today. He would be taking Argentinian Sebastian Baez head-on in the first round.

It has been a dream comeback for Elina Svitolina so far

Elina Svitolina resumed playing in 2023 at the Charleston Open. She had a first-round exit at all the majors: the Charleston Open, the Italian Open, and the Madrid Open. Upon returning to the WTA circuit, Svitolina also tried a few ITF (International Tennis Federation)-level tournaments. Despite the bad slump, Svitolina worked harder and came back stronger at Internationaux de Strasbourg.

On her way to the final, she defeated some tough competitors, including World No. 43, Varvara Gracheva. Ultimately, she defeated World No. 54, Anna Blinkova, to clinch the title and a heavy 250 points. This title win took her ranking from World No. 508 to World No. 192.
