Fritz was unable to counter these shots, and as a result, he had to play a more passive role in the first set.

In their quarter-final match at the Indian Wells Open on Thursday, Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz brought with them impressive winning streaks in the tournament. Fritz had won nine consecutive matches, while Sinner had five victories under his belt, not counting his withdrawal from the fourth round last year.

Sinner made history as the first Italian man to reach the quarter-finals in the event’s 47-year history. After reaching the 2021 Miami title match, Sinner is now heading towards his second ATP Masters 1000 semi-final, where he will face Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday. His achievements in the desert have boosted his ranking by two spots to No.11 in the ATP Rankings, with only Fritz ranking higher at No.10, but who is expected to drop at least five places by Monday.
