Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff share their love for James Blake after winning Miami Open 2023
Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff won this season’s first WTA Masters tournament together as doubles pair at Miami. Both the players were really ecstatic with their performance at the Miami Open 2023. The all-American pair defeated Canadian-American pair of Leylah Annie Fernandez and Taylor Townsend 7-6 (8/6), 6-2.
Both the players in their thank you speech also mentioned the tournament director James Blake. They also expressed their love for him and gratitude for all the efforts that he put in making this competition a resounding success as Mr. Blake was blushing.
The WTA shared an excerpt of their speech on social media.
“this is James Blake, he’s a legend!” @JLPegula and @CocoGauff give fellow American @JRBlake some love,” the caption read.
“And it means a lot. I mean growing up you were one of my idols so its fab your daughters come and wanna take pictures with me is like crazy. I mean this is James Blake, he’s a legend! So…it’s really, really cool!” Jessica Pegula was heard saying.
“Thank You James! Like I said, you know always being around the arm was always starstruck. So, watch you as a player and then as a tournament director is honestly one of the best on tours, so, I always enjoyed coming to Miami Open, so Thank You for accomodating me and my big family. Appreciated!”Coco Gauff was heard saying.

Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff are USA’s No.1 doubles pair
Unlike many other tennis players who regularly features in the singles discipline of the tennis tournaments but seldom play in the doubles discipline of the same competitions, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula regularly features in both singles as well as doubles pair. Jessica Pegula is ranked as World No.3 while Coco Gauff is ranked World No.6 in the latest WTA singles rankings.
However, together they are ranked as World No.2 in the women doubles rankings. They came together as a doubles pair last year and their partnership bear fruit as the all-American pair reached the final of the French Open. Although, they could not win the match against the all-French pair of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, it showed their world their prowess and a glimpse of future for American tennis.
Last season, they also played the WTA Finals. As the clay swing of the season will begin shortly, it is expected that the partnership of Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff will blossom. American tennis fans will be hoping for a Grand Slam title this season.
