WATCH: “Life is beautiful again” Fans in ecstasy as Rafael Nadal steps onto the court to prepare for the North American hard court swing
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal has had a mixed 2022 season so far. Coming back from an injury, he won his second Australian Open title after being two sets down against Daniil Medvedev in the final and was on a long winning streak at the start of the season. But he got himself injured at Indian Wells and was ruled out for a month.
He was forced to miss the initial half of the clay-court season and didn’t have a good buildup to the French Open either. But once against all odds and with an ailing foot, Nadal won his 22nd grand slam title and a record 14th Roland Garros title by beating Casper Ruud in the final of the 2022 French Open.
He had treatment on his foot which enabled him to play at Wimbledon for the first time in 3 years. He was doing pretty well in the tournament until he felt discomfort in his abdomen in the quarterfinals against Taylor Fritz. He somehow won the match with an abdomen tear and eventually withdrew before his semifinal against Nick Kyrgios.
Nadal was spending some time off back home in Spain with family and friends and was in recovery. He will next be seen at the Montreal Masters to kick start his North American hard court swing. The Spaniard has started practicing for the same and was out on the court for the first time since Wimbledon. He was seen hitting on the hard courts at Mallorca.
