Novak Djokovic will head into the French Open later this month as the No. 1-ranked player in men’s singles tennis as the Serb made sure he did not concede the top rank to Daniil Medvedev for the second time this year. Djokovic needed to reach the semi-final of the Italian Open 2022 and the 20-time Grand Slam champion stormed into the last 4 in Rome, beating Felix Auger-Aliasimme 7-5, 7-6 (1) in the quarter-finals on Friday.
After his win, Djokovic faced Norwegian 6th seed, Casper Ruud, in the semi-final and the Serb knew it was not gonna be an easy test despite having shown signs of returning to peak form in his quarter-final win. Ruud is coming from a strong thrilling win over Denis Shapovalov 6-7, 5-7, who upset the clay favourite, Rafael Nadal, in the third round.
Both Casper Ruud and Novak Djokovic were pumped up for the match, given the fact that the Serb dominated the game from the start, winning the first set 4-0. During the match, the Serb made multiple incredible shots, but one, in particular, left the audience speechless.

The two players appeared to be quite focused on winning the first set. In the first game of the set, Novak Djokovic broke Ruud. Djokovic got the double break against Ruud after claiming the second set as well, leading the set 3-0. However, the Norwegian’s hopes remained alive after he broke Djokovic for the first time in the match to trail 3-5 in the first set. A stunning shot from the Serb occurred during the opening set. Novak Djokovic’s flashy backhand provided a stunning shot that will be remembered for a long time during a rally between the rivals.
