Novak Djokovic was on his way to making it to the finals of the Davis Cup. However, Jannik Sinner and Italy had other plans. The 22-year-old defeated the Serb twice to send Italy through the finals. Sinner has now had the upper hand over the Serbian, and it can be said that he has taken back his revenge for the defeat in the ATP Finals. Firstly, a 6-2,2-6,7-5 singles victory over Nole kept the hopes alive for Italy in the semis.

Then in the decisive doubles Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego went on to defeat Djokovic and Kecmanovic 6-3,6-4. The World No.4 has now three wins in his last four meetups with the Serb. However, apart from that defeat for Djokovic, there was another incident that caught the attention of the headlines. A scene very similar to that of the ATP Finals where Nole was seen orchestrating the boos from the crowd.

The crowd hasn’t been too friendly for the Serb during this Davis Cup as they also tried to heckle him during the quarterfinals match. The Serb was clearly frustrated with the crowd and things slipped out of hand during the decisive doubles match. He taunted the crowd asking them to boo louder and orchestrating with the boos of the crowd.

Nole was clearly frustrated with the crowd during this ongoing Davis Cup. The fans hadn’t shown him any respect and even tried to heckle him, a scene very reminiscent to the ATP Finals in Turin. It is understandable that those things happen in the heat of the moment. However, a clear line should be drawn on the part of the fans.

What’s next for Novak Djokovic?

Despite of the crushing defeat Nole faced on Saturday it is safe to say that he had a very successful season. Winning the Australian Open, French Open, US Open, and the ATP Finals besides reaching the finals of Wimbledon is a massive deed. The Serbian has shown exemplary resilience even in the twilight of his career.

It’s true that Nole couldn’t finish the season at as high as he liked. He would have wished to win the Davis Cup with Serbia for the second time after 2010. However, things don’t go always as planned. Despite this loss, Nole should be mighty proud of himself because of the performances he has shown for a 36-year-old.

His fans would hope that he comes back with the same momentum and break some more record on the tennis court. With that sort of momentum, he would definitely have his eyes set on the Olympics happening next year.

After the match, the Serbian was in full praise for the 22-year-old saying that he didn’t even miss a single chance to score. The world No.4 successfully took Italy through to the finals of the Davis Cup for the first time after 1998. Italy will lock horns with Australia on Sunday.
