Novak Djokovic forced an updation of the record books as he won the 2022 ATP Finals. The Serb defeated Casper Ruud 7-5, 6-3 in the finals to win his 6th title at the event and the 91st title of his career. Owing to his supreme form after the US Open leg was done, the Serb was the favorite and he played like a one.
On a rare occasion, Djokovic’s family that included his wife Jelena and kids Stefan and Tara were present with him throughout the tournament. After winning the match point, Djokovic raced to his kids to hug them and then in the locker room, lifted the trophy with Tara sitting in it as the family celebrated together.
Following his win, Djokovic paid a tribute to his family and thanked them for their support. After the events in Australia, it was a great turnaround for the Serb and he did not forget to thank his family who were the biggest pillars of support.
“I’m very grateful to my wife and my children for coming. I don’t get to have these moments on the Tour with them so much, so I of course try to enjoy it as much as I possibly can. I took both of my children, particularly my son, to a lot of the tennis training sessions, warmups and matches. He was very loud [during the final]. I was very surprised. I could hear his voice the entire time. He was very much into it,” said Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic credits his family for an easy life on the Tour
Djokovic had been riding high on pressure and expectations after his limited Tour season. He did not disappoint his fans as he finished on a winning note securing a Top-5 finish as well to end the season.
“They make my life on Tour easier. The pressures, the expectations, the tensions that you normally go through in a big tournament like this, when they’re around, it lowers a bit so I can have that time off, quality time with my family. That really soothes me and gives me serenity in order to recalibrate and play my best tennis the next day.
“I cherish these moments a lot. Hopefully, as they grow older, they’ll realize even more what special moments we’re living together,” added Djokovic speaking about his loved ones in his post-match press conference.
