The 2022 US Open finals sees World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and World No. 5 Ons Jabeur fighting for the 5th time in their careers and both looking for their first-ever hardcourt Grand Slam title as Swiatek is already a 2-time French Open champion but Ons is yet to win one.
Both the women have a Grand Slam final to show this season as Iga won the title at the 2022 French Open while Jabeur finished runner-up at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, her first-ever Grand Slam final appearance that ended in a losing cause for her.
Ons Jabeur takes a nasty fall as she falls behind in the match against Iga Swiatek
Swiatek claimed the first set 6-2 in 30 minutes to draw the first blood in the finals and put one foot ahead. While Jabeur tried to stage a mini comeback after going 3-0 down in the first set, she could not hold on to the form for long as Swiatek quickly wrapped the remainder.
The second set’s start was no different for Ons as she was broken in her very first service game that handed Swiatek a 2-0 lead moving further closer to the match. During the same time, however, Ons’ frustration was growing as she was hitting unforced errors and was unable to find winners.
During one such rally, Swiatek‘s return hit the net and changed direction which Jabeur reached only due to her athleticism and despite managing to return it, Iga’s return became too far for Ons to get her racket at and the stretch became too much for her as she fell down tossing her racket.
