American legend Serena Williams is not done yet. Playing her farewell tournament, the 2022 US Open, she won her opening round match against Danka Kovinic in straight sets 6-3,6-3 to give herself at least one more match before she bids adieu to tennis. In front of 23000 fans in a packed Arthur Ashe stadium, it was a very emotional night for Serena given the high stakes the match had.

Serena was rusty at the start of the match and made a lot of unforced errors and handed an early break to Kovinic. But she composed herself and got momentum eventually and started serving well. She got the break back and served her way into the set like she has been doing over the years. She won the last 4 games consecutively and won the opening set 6-3.

The American was a much better player in the second set. She played with a lot of intensity right from the start and took charge from the baseline after setting up the point on serve. She once again got the decisive break and capitalized it to win the set 6-3 and delay her retirement by at least one more match.
