Andy Murray opens about an emotional experience from the Citi Open
in 2018, Andy Murray was on a good run at the Citi Open, winning his round of 64 match-ups against Mackenzie Mcdonald, round of 32 against Kyle Edmund and finally the round of 16 face-offs against Marius Copil. Murray won against Copil 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 in a long match where the Britisher got pretty emotional after he emerged victorious.
Looking back on this incident Murray said, “2018 was a really difficult year because I played a number of long matches that year, very late ones and I was very emotional after one of them, everyone thought that I was so emotional that I had won the match and that I had come back from the operation I had, but actually I was struggling so much physically, I was just really upset that my hip was hurting badly and I remember getting back to the locker room with my team and we were all crying, I was like ‘I can’t do this anymore, it’s too painful’ and I remember that a lot but I managed to get back here and relatively pain-free so it’s good.“
Murray had to withdraw from the Citi Open that year due to his injury problems and now the former Wimbledon and US Open champion returned to the tournament where he, unfortunately, was eliminated in the first round.
