“When you don’t have the No.1 in a tournament…” Felix Auger-Aliassime speaks on the impact of the absence of Daniil Medvedev amidst the ban on Russian players

“It changes the game” Felix Auger-Aliassime speaks on the absence of big names from tournaments
All set to compete in front of his home crowd at this year’s Montreal Open, Felix opened up on the quality of the draw and how the absence of certain names might affect the picture. “There are two Top 10 Russians who were not present in Wimbledon and in particular Daniil Medvedev who is the best player in the world. When you don’t have the world number one in a tournament, it changes the game.“
When it comes to the big three, participation is set to be severely limited with Roger Federer not ready to return, Rafael Nadal battling a series of niggling injuries alongside the treatment for the Muller-Weiss disease that has dogged him for much of the latter portion of his career, and Novak Djokovic still unwilling to get vaccinated to secure entry to the United States and Canada.
He signed off by saying, “Daniil is a reigning chamber in Canada and we know how successful he is on a hard surface. Daniil is still one of the favorites. Nadal is also to be monitored if he remains in shape. There are also Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas to consider. The picture is very strong here as in all 1000 masters.”
